ClearCents is built by a bank insider to help you understand and protect your money. We take data privacy seriously — your financial information is used only to power the features you see in the app, and is never sold or shared for advertising.
1. Information We Collect
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address through our authentication provider (Clerk). When you connect a bank account, we use Plaid to retrieve your transaction history, account balances, and institution name. We never see or store your bank login credentials — those are handled entirely by Plaid's secure infrastructure.
We also collect standard web usage data such as pages visited and feature interactions to improve the product.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your financial data exclusively to provide ClearCents features: detecting hidden fees, generating AI-powered insights, calculating your money score, and displaying your transaction history.
Your data is processed by Anthropic's Claude AI to generate insights and flagging. This processing is performed on your de-identified transaction descriptions and amounts — we do not send your name, account numbers, or institution details to the AI.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Supabase with encryption at rest. Your Plaid access tokens are stored securely and never exposed to the frontend or transmitted in API responses.
We use HTTPS for all data in transit. Authentication is managed by Clerk, which handles password hashing, session management, and security monitoring.
4. Third-Party Services
ClearCents uses the following third-party services to operate:
• Clerk — authentication and user management (clerk.com)
• Plaid — bank account connectivity and transaction data (plaid.com)
• Anthropic — AI analysis of transaction data (anthropic.com)
• Supabase — database hosting (supabase.com)
• Vercel — application hosting (vercel.com)
Each service operates under its own privacy policy and security standards. We encourage you to review them.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and financial transaction history are permanently deleted from our database within 30 days.
You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at the email address below.

You have the right to:
• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Disconnect your bank account at any time through the app
• Export your transaction data

7. Cookies
We use cookies and local storage solely for authentication session management (provided by Clerk). We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
8. Children's Privacy
ClearCents is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ClearCents after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
